The longest beach on the island
Why we like it?
The beach is home to some of the island's best resorts and there are some great beach restaurants just 5 minutes walk away.
To find an almost deserted stretch of beach, just walk north towards the centre of the beach for 10 minutes.
ABOUT KLONG PRAO BEACH
Klong Prao is the longest beach on the island but is split by two inland rivers or “klongs”. In the rainy season Klong Plu waterfall makes its way to the ocean through one of the rivers but, as the rains dry, they are quiet easily crossed on foot.
Baan Zen is situated 200 metres off of Klong Prao Beach on the southernmost of the two rivers.
There are a number of high end resorts situated along Klong Prao Beach setting out their beach chairs on the exquisite stretch of white sand. And you’ll also find some great beach restaurants – Pilot Bar, Family Restaurant and Mandalay Restaurant – all under 5 minutes walk from Baan Zen.
At Baan Zen, you stay in the same area as folks who have booked Emerald Cove Resort, The Dewa, Centara Tropicana Resort and Barali Beach Resort . But you won’t feel as though you are, as Baan Zen is hidden away on the estuary.
Only a few minutes walk from these luxury resorts, but a world away in terms of privacy and ambiance.
During peak season, the nearby stretch of beach can get quite busy. However, it’s easy to escape the crowds by walking north along the beach for just 10 – 15 minutes to Tiger Hut and the quietest stretch of beach on the west coast of the island.
Here you can sunbathe and have 50 metres of beachfront to yourself. Or grab a cold beer and sit in the shade in the no-name beach bar adjacent to Santhiya Tree Resort. And if you get hungry the basic, but excellent, restaurant at Tiger Hut does very cheap and very tasty Thai food right by the beach. No frills but for the price and location, it can’t be beat.
